Beijing Massage Hospital was founded in 1958 and subordinated to China Disabled Persons’ Federation. It’s the resource center of medical massage technique for the blind therapists in China. It is registered at Beijing Municipal Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is an appointed specialized hospital for the Basic Medical Insurance System in Beijing. Covering a land area of 4000m2 and a floor area of 3000 m2, it has over 260 staff.
      Beijing Massage Hospital focuses on functional diseases. It has gradually formed a special treatment mode, which features with manipulation treatment taking the dominant position and physical and medication treatment playing a supporting role. It achieves good effect in treating dozens of diseases, such as cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, scapulohumeral periarthritis, menopausal syndrome, irregular menstruation, constipation, pediatric cerebral palsy and infantile myogenic torticollis. It receives more than 1500 outpatients everyday. The hospital has inpatient department and other specialized departments, such as Massage Department, Acupuncture and Moxibustion Department, Physiotherapy Department, X-ray Department, Laboratory Department and Pharmacy. It has established sub-health treatment center, which focuses on the idea of preventive treatment of disease and provides quality and safety service for the sub-health people. While fulfilling the clinical medical tasks, the hospital has made great efforts in training massage therapists and carrying out research and teaching events. It also undertakes the guidance work of training the national blind therapists. Several hundred-research theses from the hospital have been published in the national, provincial and municipal journals. The hospital has compiled over 10 monographs on medical science such as the Pandects of Chinese Massage, Massage Therapeutics and Massage Manual, etc. Meanwhile it is responsible for the national project of compiling the Technical Specification of Medical Massage for the Blind. It possesses its own subordinate massage training school, offers the medical and health care massage training classes. It provides clinical internships for the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Changchun University and Beijing Union University. Over 600 students from China and abroad attend the courses each year.
      As one of the largest specialized massage hospitals in China, it has many professional academic exchange and cooperation with many countries. The hospital often sends experts abroad to give lectures and attend international academic conferences. It runs cooperative clinics in several countries.
