Beijing Massage Hospital, founded in 1958, is the birthplace of modern blind medical massage in China. As the first medical institution established by the central government after the founding of the People's Republic of China to promote employment for visually impaired individuals, it is affiliated with the China Disabled Persons' Federation. The hospital is a Grade III Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital registered with the Beijing Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a designated hospital for basic medical insurance in Beijing. It is the only specialized massage hospital in Beijing and also serves as the National Technical Resource Centre for Blind Medical Massage.
Beijing Massage Hospital operates under a president responsibility system under the leadership of the Party Committee, deeply integrating Party building with clinical operations to promote mutual advancement. High-quality Party building drives the hospital's high-quality development. Since its founding, the hospital has evolved from a training clinic for blind practitioners with just seven doctors into a tertiary TCM hospital. It now employs over 600 staff members (including more than 110 blind medical massage practitioners), manages over 4,000 outpatient visits daily, and maintains standardized management across its Xicheng and Chaoyang branches.
Beijing Massage Hospital consistently upholds the principle of preserving tradition while promoting innovation, leveraging its strengths in both sighted and blind people. It has established specialized departments centered on TCM Tuina, supplemented by acupuncture & moxibustion, rehabilitation, and herbal medicine. The hospital operates over ten specialized clinics treating conditions such as pelvic imbalance, stroke, headache, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and birth-related brachial plexus injuries. The hospital has successively been designated as a Key Specialized Department Construction Project by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a National Cultivation Unit for Advantaged TCM Specialized Departments, a Beijing Municipal Key TCM Specialized Department, and a Chaoyang District Key TCM Specialized Department.
The hospital implements homogeneous management across two its campuses, with clinical departments including Tuina, Pediatrics, Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, Internal Medicine, Dentistry, Dermatology, VIP Clinic, Preventive Medicine, and TCM Nursing. Medical technical departments comprise Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacy, and the Central Sterile Supply Department. The Chaoyang Branch houses five inpatient wards: Tui Na, Pediatrics, Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Internal Medicine, and Orthopedics. The Xicheng Branch is located at 7 Baochan Lane, Xicheng District, Beijing, while the Chaoyang Branch is situated at 10 Wusheng North Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The hospital has a total of 300 designated beds.
